Rare Antique Lorgnette w/ Protective Case
This gold filled lorgnette from the early 1900's was manufactured by American Optical in the United States.
It is hallmarked on the bottomside of the bridge as "AO 1/10 12K GF Patent Pending".  As a spectacles
collector for about 15 years, I have seen many similar lorgnettes from this period however, I have never seen
the closing feature that this one has.  At both ends of the temple, where it attaches to the lense frames, are
two pivot points, which allow the lenses to rotate and collapse into the classic shape of a closed lorgnette
from this period (see photos).  This lorgnette includes a period protective case.
